Working with challenging geometry and geology.
This was a 5.0km project on the north face of the SH1 Brynderwyn Hills, south of Whangarei. The key purpose of this project was to improve safety for road users on this section of the state highway and to ensure safer driver conditions.
The project realigned the existing road to improve safety. Improvements included: widening the current road, removing tight corners towards the top of the hill, installing a median wire rope barrier, and providing a new lookout point over the Bream Bay, Hen and Chicken Islands and the Waipu Plains.
